Our family has a huge garden and I cannot lie, my husband and daughter do all of the work in it. It seems everything I touch dies. Digging It, How To Garden Your Way Out Of The Recession. This book is out just in time to help with our garden. The Authors Bunny Henderson and Rebecca Lubow take you through a step by step process.
Planting a Victory Garden was a way American Citizens showed their support of the war effort in the 1940s. With the recession and the 2 wars going on right now planting your own garden has never been such a need. Americans have lost their way when it comes to gardening but now you see the news and community plots to start a garden.
When my husband and I moved into our first house he built me a box garden that we used as decoration and food. We really had no money and walking out to the porch to grab all of the veggies for a salad. That same year I went to my cousins wedding in downtown Pittsburgh and was amazed to see she was growing vegetabls to link her walk. The cabages were beutiful the small amout of space she had she was making the most off. Her herb garden was groing all around the outside of her house.

Here are the steps Digging It suggests:
- Plan Your Plot – Victory gardens were 35×35 feet which is about the same space this book suggests.
- Gather Your Tools – You have to have the proper tools to have a garden you will need to have or borrow the tools you need for gardening.
- Choose Your Plants – Digging It helps you with this by giving you web sites to check for your seed needs.
- Prepare the Soil – Here they explain what you need to do to get the soil reading for planting.
- And More!
This book sells for $9.95 and I’ll tell you it is an excellent investment. It is a step by step planning guide and has everything from the start up of your garden to the bugs and pests. I think maybe even I will be able to tender some green veggies this summer.
