Vacations Minus Distractions
A family vacation, without modern distractions. This is easy for us. We actually do it without being on vacation. Our home is located in a “dead zone”. I hope it stays that way. We don’t live too far from the river, and campgrounds. We don’t take our cell phone, or radios – nothing. If you can’t travel to a “dead zone”, then leave the cells at home. That is one of the biggest distractions anywhere! Below are ten more tips that you might find useful.
- Leave the phones at home.
- Leave the games at home.
- The less you take, the more your family is likely to interact together, and there’s one less item for the kids to bicker over!
- Dress comfy. If you’re going to lake, river, creek or local pool there really isn’t a need to wear your best jeans. Dress back and encourage the kids to do the same. You’ll all feel better aftwards.
- Don’t travel hungry. Eat before you leave home, and it’ll be a friendlier and more budget friendly ride.
- Remember those old time games like I Spy, License Plate Bingo, and one of our favorites ABC games alternating letters from person to person. A good ole’ search will help you out for road trip games.
- Singing songs, or car karaoke.
- Each of you can count different color cars and see who counts the most in a few miles.
- Travel within reason, you don’t have to take an 8 hour road trip to have a great time. Find local scenic attractions, walks in the parks, hikes, even a picnic.
- No matter how far you go, pack for a snack attack!
